Gateway to Sharjah

Sharjah, a modern trading emirate with over a million residents, proudly embraces its Arabic heritage, showcased in its architecture, historic port, magnificent mosques, and expansive open spaces. The study area, spanning over 40 hectares, was occupied by industrial and auto service facilities, along with peripheral commercial retail uses. Cansult-Mansuell and Baker Turner Inc. were commissioned to develop a new, vibrant city center that reflects the emirate's cultural heritage and values in a contemporary context. This new city center will provide residential opportunities and a high-density urban core supported by a well-designed mass transit system. The final vision for the city center enhances the existing grid structure, introducing a linear grand mall leading to the corniche—a large lagoon surrounded by parks and pedestrian promenades, linking the old city to the Persian Gulf.
